The Energy Commission of Ghana, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), engaged the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss Ghana’s participation in the US$40 million Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund (EERF).

The discussions focused on stakeholder engagement, financial models, and strategies to maximize impact and deliver measurable energy savings.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ing. Eunice Biritwum, welcomed the UNDP team and highlighted Ghana’s commitment to energy-efficient, low-global warming potential (GWP) cooling solutions across hotels, supermarkets, and cold-chain logistics.

Key areas of collaboration include refrigerant transition projects, capacity building for technicians, and promoting local assembly of energy-efficient refrigerators.

The meeting reinforced the partnership between the Energy Commission and the EPA, central to implementing the fund, ensuring compliance with the Kigali Amendment, and driving sustainable cooling solutions nationwide.

The EERF provides low-interest loans for energy-efficient, climate-friendly cooling technologies, with repayments recycled to support future projects, creating a sustainable financing mechanism to advance Ghana’s green cooling agenda.
