The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has commended Newmont Ghana Limited for supporting the successful reclamation of 320 hectares of degraded, mined-out lands at Manso Nyankomanse in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, the Minister said Newmont’s contribution demonstrates the critical role corporate institutions can play in restoring lands destroyed by illegal mining activities.

“I commend Newmont Ghana Limited for supporting Government beyond its statutory obligations and for contributing meaningfully to national environmental restoration efforts,” he said.

He also acknowledged the contractor, RM ECORESTORE GH LTD, for the work done, adding that tree planting will commence during the rainy season to complete the restoration process.

“Together, through collaboration and shared responsibility, we can reclaim our lands, restore our water bodies, and secure a sustainable future for generations to come,” the Minister emphasised.

He called on other corporate entities to partner with government in similar initiatives, stressing that private sector collaboration is essential to accelerating environmental restoration efforts nationwide.

According to the Minister, such partnerships will help reclaim degraded lands, restore ecological balance, and support the long-term socio-economic development of affected communities.
