Gold Fields to transition Damang Mine to Ghanaian ownership from 18 April

Gold Fields will transition ownership and operation of the Damang Mine to Ghanaian ownership effective April 18, 2026, Chief Executive Officer Mike Fraser has announced.
Speaking during a media engagement, Fraser said the company had applied for a lease extension in April 2025. However, the Government indicated its preference for the asset to transition to Ghanaian ownership, a position the company accepted.
He explained that a 12-month lease extension was subsequently granted to enable a safe and seamless transition process.
According to Mr. Fraser, a transition team appointed by the sector minister has been working with Gold Fields’ on-site team since July last year to facilitate the handover.
He confirmed that Gold Fields will cease operating and owning the Damang Mine from April 18, 2026, when the asset officially transitions to Ghanaian ownership.
