AngloGold Ashanti trains 100 artisans in Obuasi to support local economic growth

AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has graduated 100 artisans from its host communities under the company’s Skills Development and Certification Programme, aimed at equipping residents with practical skills to support sustainable livelihoods.
The six-month intensive training programme provided participants with hands-on instruction in welding and fabrication, auto mechanics, auto electricals, electronics, and plumbing.
The training also included modules on entrepreneurship and financial literacy to prepare the graduates to establish and manage their own businesses.

The initiative forms part of the mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), which seeks to strengthen local economic resilience and reduce the overreliance of host communities on mining activities.

At the end of the programme, the graduates received certifications from the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) and the Energy Commission, in addition to start-up kits containing essential tools to support their transition into self-employment.

Since its introduction, the Skills Development and Certification Programme has trained about 300 artisans across AngloGold Ashanti’s host communities, helping beneficiaries acquire employable skills, create jobs, and contribute to the development of a more diversified and resilient local economy.
