Zijin, Lands Ministry begin reclamation of mining-degraded River Subi lands

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has officially handed over a site for a major land reclamation project aimed at restoring degraded land along the River Subile in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The project, to be undertaken by Ecorestore Ghana Limited, will reclaim about 800 acres of land damaged by mining activities.
According to the Minister, the initiative is being funded by large-scale mining company Zijin Golden Ridge Limited in partnership with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

Armah-Kofi Buah said the selected tree species for the reclamation exercise are intended to improve soil fertility, restore ecological balance and return the land to productive and sustainable use.
He reiterated government’s commitment to addressing the environmental destruction caused by years of irresponsible mining, particularly in forest reserves and farming communities.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate degraded lands and promote sustainable mining practices across the country.
