Mining sector analyst Dr Kenneth Bansah has described the government’s decision to uphold the revocation of Adamus Resources Limited’s mining leases as a “long-overdue” decision.

According to Dr. Bansah, the increasing scrutiny of mining activities in Ghana is important to ensure that the sector delivers value while meeting environmental, social and safety standards.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, upheld the revocation of Adamus Resources’ Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases following the conclusion of an Inter-Ministerial Committee’s review of the company’s petition.

The leases were initially revoked in April 2026 after inspections by the Minerals Commission identified what it described as sustained breaches of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) and related regulations.

The Commission cited breaches including the unauthorised assignment of mineral rights, mining outside permitted areas and failure to obtain required environmental and forestry approvals.

The review committee also identified US$2.56 million in unpaid mineral rights fees, GH¢86.8 million in unpaid royalties and GH¢290.5 million in tax arrears.

Dr. Bansah said the development demonstrated the importance of effective oversight of Ghana’s mining sector.

He noted that a state committed to value creation, sustainability and environmental, social and safety protection must pay close attention to mining activities and ensure that regulatory institutions enforce the law.
