Ghana: Ashanti donates GH¢445,000 towards Burma Camp redevelopment

AngloGold Ashanti has donated GH₵ 445,000.00 to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to support its self-help housing initiative, the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong, received the donation on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from AngloGold Ashanti.
The leader of the delegation and Senior Manager of Community Relations for Africa, Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, expressed the company’s appreciation to GAF. He highlighted the long-standing relationship between both institutions, which inspired the decision to support GAF’s laudable housing project.
Mr Baidoo added that the donation demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to empowering people and supporting projects that positively affect communities.

In response, the CDS acknowledged the fruitful partnership between the two institutions and lauded AngloGold Ashanti’s continuous support of GAF. He said the collaboration dates back several years, with past support directed toward infrastructure development, particularly for troops at the Central Command.
He urged AngloGold Ashanti to regard the donation as part of a long-term partnership rather than a one-time intervention. Lt Gen Agyapong encouraged the company to continue considering GAF when planning future corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Other members of the delegation included the Director of Security and Human Rights, Mr Desmond Banahene, and Communications Specialist, Ms Keziah Enyan. The Director for External Relations and Sustainability, Mr Albert Amekudzi, and Research and Analysis Assistant, Ms Priscilla Animah Owusu, from the Ghana Chamber of Mines, also attended to support AngloGold Ashanti.
Also present were the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Rear Admiral Francis Ayitevi Nyarko; the Director General of the Defence Industries Department, Brigadier General George Abosi Oppong; and the Deputy Director of Community Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Rita Anane.
