Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector continues to record increasing gold exports, but public revenues generated from the sector remain comparatively low, raising concerns about governance effectiveness and revenue leakages.

In response to the widening gap between export growth and domestic revenue mobilisation from ASM, the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) convened a stakeholder validation workshop to review findings from its ongoing research into illicit financial flows in the sector.

The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to assess preliminary findings, validate data, and offer feedback aimed at strengthening and finalising the research paper ahead of publication.

Discussions also examined the performance of existing reforms, including the role of GoldBod, in delivering improved revenue outcomes for the state.

Participants included representatives from key public institutions such as the Ghana Revenue Authority, Bank of Ghana, and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, as well as officials from private banks and civil society organisations.
