GNPC Explorco secures technical partners for Voltaian Basin drilling

Ghana has taken a significant step toward its first inland oil and gas drilling campaign following the signing of strategic agreements by GNPC Explorco with Lubrimax and Well Engineering Partners (WEP) to support exploration preparations in the Voltaian Basin.

The agreements are aimed at advancing technical and operational readiness for onshore exploration activities, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s efforts to expand hydrocarbon exploration beyond its offshore fields.

GNPC Explorco, the exploration and production subsidiary of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), said the collaboration will bring world-class technical expertise to the project while strengthening local capacity in the upstream petroleum sector.

Under the partnership, Lubrimax and Well Engineering Partners are expected to provide specialised engineering, operational and technical support services required for the planned drilling campaign in the Voltaian Basin, an area widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most promising onshore hydrocarbon frontiers.

The Voltaian Basin covers a large portion of the country and has long been the focus of geological and geophysical studies aimed at determining its oil and gas potential. However, the basin is yet to witness large-scale drilling activity.

The latest agreements represent an important step toward unlocking the basin’s resource potential and diversifying Ghana’s upstream petroleum portfolio.
