The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has held a graduation dinner for the third cohort of its Graduate Training Programme, marking the successful completion of training by participants at the Tarkwa and Damang Mines.

Over the past two years, a total of 90 trainees have undergone structured, hands-on training, acquiring technical, professional and workplace skills aimed at improving their employability and preparedness for the job market.

The Foundation said a number of the graduates have already secured employment with Gold Fields Ghana and other mining companies operating in the country.

As part of the programme, the trainees earned professional certifications from the Minerals Commission as well as Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification.

These qualifications provide recognised competencies in regulatory compliance, process improvement and operational excellence within the mining industry.

The Foundation disclosed that it has invested approximately US$4.8 million in skills development initiatives to date, reflecting its commitment to human capital development and sustainable development within its host communities.

The Graduate Training Programme was initiated in 2018 and offers a two-year, structured, on-the-job training opportunity for university graduates drawn from host communities of the Tarkwa and Damang mines.

The programme is designed to equip young graduates with industry-relevant skills while building a sustainable talent pipeline for Ghana’s mining sector.

According to the Foundation, the initiative forms a core component of its host community skills development strategy, which seeks to enhance the quality of human capital in mining-affected communities.

Since its inception, 261 young people have benefitted from the programme.
