Sammy Gyamfi to speak at Mining Indaba on gold as a critical mineral for Africa

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., will speak at a high-level panel session during the Investing in African Mining Indaba 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, focusing on the role of gold in Africa’s development.
Mr Gyamfi will speak at the session titled “Is gold a critical mineral for Africa’s development?”, scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Ngorongoro Crater Stage (CTICC1 – Level 2).
The session will examine whether gold should be formally recognised as a critical mineral for Africa, against the backdrop of recent political and economic shifts on the continent towards gold security. Discussions will challenge traditional narratives around critical minerals and explore gold’s importance in economic stability, industrialisation, and value retention.
The session forms part of Mining Indaba 2026’s Critical Minerals agenda and will bring together industry leaders and policy actors to assess how Africa can better leverage its gold resources amid evolving global market dynamics.
It will be moderated by Nere Emiko, Chief Executive Officer of Kian Smith Company.
Mining Indaba 2026 will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), convening key stakeholders from across the global mining industry.
