Ghana:GIISDEC engages B5 Plus on scrap metal policy, concession interest

The Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) has engaged B5 Plus Limited as part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening Ghana’s iron and steel industry, with discussions also touching on the company’s expressed interest in acquiring a concession.
The engagement took place on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, when the Chief Executive Officer of GIISDEC, Mr. Williams Okofo-Dateh, led a delegation on a working visit to the premises of B5 Plus Limited.
According to GIISDEC, discussions during the meeting focused on the implementation of the upcoming Scrap Metal Policy, the importance of stakeholder collaboration, and the broader future of Ghana’s iron and steel sector.

As part of the engagement, GIISDEC formally invited B5 Plus to participate in an upcoming industry forum intended to bring together key stakeholders across the value chain to promote steel-related activities nationwide and support policy coordination within the sector.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for GIISDEC to follow up on B5 Plus’ previously expressed interest in acquiring a concession. .
GIISDEC said the engagement forms part of its broader mandate to attract strategic private sector participation, promote value addition, and position Ghana’s iron and steel industry as a key driver of industrialisation and economic growth.
