A 15-member delegation from various Tanzanian institutions has paid a working visit to Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of efforts to deepen cooperation and share experiences in environmental governance within the mining sector.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, aimed to provide the delegation with insights into Ghana’s environmental regulatory framework, oversight mechanisms, and institutional mandate, particularly as they relate to mining and natural resource management.

As two of Africa’s leading mining nations, the engagement offered an opportunity for Ghana to share the history of the EPA, its environmental impact assessment (EIA) processes, regulatory strategies, and enforcement tools used to ensure sustainable and responsible mining operations.

Officials of the EPA highlighted the Agency’s role in safeguarding water bodies, ecosystems and host communities, while balancing environmental protection with mineral development.

The discussions also focused on capacity building, institutional strengthening and networking among regulatory bodies on the continent.

The Tanzanian delegation engaged EPA officials on best practices in environmental monitoring, compliance enforcement, and inter-agency collaboration in the mining sector.

The visit forms part of a broader programme scheduled from January 19 to 23, 2026, which includes engagements with other mining sector institutions, mine site visits and stakeholder interactions aimed at strengthening environmental stewardship and sustainable mining governance in Africa.

Both parties expressed confidence that the exchange would enhance cooperation, promote knowledge sharing and support the development of robust environmental oversight systems across the continent.
