The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has begun its participation at the African Mining Indaba 2026 with a series of high-level engagements focused on strengthening partnerships, attracting investment and promoting sustainable mining in Ghana.

The engagements followed the official opening of the conference at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, where thousands of delegates from governments, mining companies, investors and development partners have gathered under the theme “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnerships.”

MIIF’s activities were led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Justina Nelson, supported by Board Members Hon. Yakubu Mohammed and Ms Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, as well as Chief Technical Officer Mr Kwabena Barning and Head of Investment Mr Ernest Attiso. The discussions centred on partnership opportunities that align commercial returns with Ghana’s national development priorities.

As part of its engagement programme, MIIF held meetings with Asanko Gold Mine Ghana Limited, AngloGold Ashanti Ghana Limited and Gold Fields Ghana Limited. Talks explored potential collaboration in areas including streaming arrangements, foreign exchange considerations, sustainability initiatives and the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards.

Environmental stewardship featured prominently, with mining companies expressing interest in working with MIIF’s ESG and Sustainability teams to support the reforestation of mined-out areas and long-term land restoration efforts.

The discussions also highlighted social impact, particularly support for MIIF’s Women from Mining Communities (WomCom) Scholarship Programme, with commitments to collaborate on STEM education initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for women and girls in mining communities.

MIIF’s early engagements at the Mining Indaba underscored its role as a catalytic investment institution, advancing responsible mining, inclusive growth and sustainable value creation within Ghana’s minerals sector.
