GRIDCo completes 2025–2040 generation and transmission master plans

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has completed work on updated Generation and Transmission Master Plans covering the period 2025 to 2040, aimed at meeting the country’s growing electricity demand and expanding renewable energy in the national power mix.
The updated strategic documents outline a long-term roadmap intended to guide critical investment and planning decisions across Ghana’s power sector.
The plans are designed to ensure the national power system continues to deliver reliable and stable electricity to support the country’s economic growth and future energy needs.

As part of the process, GRIDCo Chief Executive, Ing. Mark Baah, together with other key stakeholders in the power sector, held engagements to discuss priority investments, transmission infrastructure expansion, and the integration of renewable energy into the National Grid.

According to GRIDCo, the expansion of renewable energy forms a central component of the plans, with Ghana targeting a 10 percent renewable energy share in the national electricity generation mix by 2030.

The master plans are also expected to support Ghana’s broader energy transition agenda and align with the country’s international commitments under the Paris Agreement and other climate change frameworks.
