Ghana signs energy cooperation deal with Abu Dhabi-based investment company

The Energy Commission of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global South Utilities (GSU), a resources investment company based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to formalise cooperation in the energy sector.
The agreement was signed in Accra by Ms Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, and Mr Ali Al Shimmari, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of GSU, following approval by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor .
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the UAE Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Dr Abdulla Almandoos, and took place on the sidelines of a high-level visit to the Presidency of Ghana by a UAE delegation led by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State of the UAE.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will explore opportunities for technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and investment partnerships aimed at supporting Ghana’s energy transition agenda.
Ms Bondzie said the partnership would help identify “practical areas of collaboration that deliver tangible value for Ghana’s energy sector.”

Mr Al Shimmari reaffirmed GSU’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s energy transition efforts and long-term economic growth.
Both parties expressed confidence that the MoU would contribute to strengthening energy infrastructure resilience while expanding access to sustainable, reliable and affordable energy in Ghana and the wider region.
