BOSTenergies rejects fuel shortage concerns over reduced Burkina Faso, Mali exports
BOST Energies Limited Company (BOSTenergies) has attributed the recent reduction in its fuel export volumes to Burkina Faso and Mali to the ongoing revamp of its Bolgatanga depot.
The company said the depot serves as its designated gateway to the Sahelian market and that the ongoing works have affected its normal route for supplying the two countries.
BOSTenergies issued the clarification on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following media reports based on an interview its Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, granted Reuters on the sidelines of an energy conference in Bangkok.
According to the company, Mr Awoonor’s statement that BOSTenergies was “managing our export business to ensure that we have enough for the country first” was published without the fuller context.
BOSTenergies said the reports created an inaccurate impression that the reduction in regional export volumes was due to an imminent fuel shortage in Ghana.
“There is no imminent fuel shortage in Ghana, and no cutting of supply has been implemented on this and any other basis,” the company said.
It explained that under normal operating conditions, regional export volumes are transported through an integrated network of pipelines and barges connecting its depots from southern Ghana to the north.
The arrangement enables BOSTenergies to supply the regional market while meeting its required profit margin thresholds, it said.
With the Bolgatanga depot undergoing revamp and nearing completion, the company said it has continued to supply the regional market by transporting petroleum products via Bulk Road Vehicles (BRVs) from its coastal depot in Tema.
BOSTenergies said it is also maintaining fuel distribution across the various demand zones in Ghana during the period.
The company further stated that no political, security or diplomatic consideration influenced the reduction in regional export volumes.
It said full regional supply capacity would be restored once the Bolgatanga depot revamp is completed.
BOSTenergies added that it remains committed to supporting regional fuel security through reliable and commercially sustainable supply arrangements and is working with government and regulatory partners to expedite completion of the depot
