Ghana Chamber of Mines engages Adamus, regulators over lease revocation

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has begun engagements with Adamus Resources Limited and relevant regulatory authorities following the government’s decision to uphold the revocation of the company’s Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases.

A statement issued by the Chamber said the revocation followed a report by a Ministerial Review Committee on a petition filed by Adamus Resources.

While recognising the government’s mandate to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and promote responsible and environmentally sustainable mining, the Chamber stressed the importance of due process, fairness, regulatory certainty and consistent application of the law.

The Chamber said it is engaging Adamus and the relevant regulators to better understand the circumstances, findings and processes that led to the decision.

It said it is also mindful of the potential impact of the matter on workers, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments.

The Chamber urged all parties to operate within Ghana’s legal and regulatory framework and pursue any outstanding issues through the appropriate legal and institutional channels.

It said it would refrain from commenting further on the substantive issues until the ongoing engagements and processes have progressed.

The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a transparent, predictable and competitive mining industry while protecting Ghana’s national interest, jobs and legitimate investments.
