Minerals Commission Chief Executive Officer Isaac Tandoh has said Ghana is seeking to position itself as a leading mining investment destination in Africa through policy certainty, transparency and responsible mining practices.
“Our goal in Ghana is to be the premier mining investment hub in Africa, not just by our resource abundance, but through policy certainty, transparency, and a commitment to responsible, sustainable mining,” Mr Tandoh said.
He was speaking at the Ministerial and CEO Roundtable at the Egypt Mining Forum, where he represented the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
The roundtable, hosted by the Africa Minerals Strategy Group and the Egypt Mining Forum, focused on “From Exploration to Markets: Strengthening Africa’s Geological Data, Mineral Value Chains, Responsible Sourcing and Long-term Supply Chain Security.”
Mr Tandoh said Ghana’s mining investment ambitions were also linked to efforts to increase local participation in the sector.
He said Ghana was working to ensure that high-value engineering, digital and technical services within the mining industry could increasingly be undertaken by Ghanaian professionals and businesses.
He also pointed to the Minerals Commission’s digital transformation agenda, including the Mining Cadastre Administration System (MCAS), as part of efforts to improve transparency in mining administration and strengthen investor confidence.
Mr Tandoh further stressed the need for African countries to shift from exporting raw minerals to greater local processing and beneficiation, arguing that more value from the continent’s mineral resources should be retained within African economies.
He cited Ghana’s efforts to develop value chains around gold and emerging minerals such as lithium as part of the country’s broader approach to mineral development.
