Gold Fields Foundation donates GH¢1.83m vehicles, motorcycles to GES, agencies

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has donated two Toyota Hilux pickups and nine motorcycles to public institutions to support education, agriculture and community health services in the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipalities.

The donations, presented on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the TNA Stadium, are intended to improve field supervision, agricultural extension, health outreach and other community-level services.

The two Toyota Hilux pickups, valued at more than GH¢1.54 million, have been allocated to the Ghana Education Service (GES), with one going to the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Directorate and the other to the Prestea Huni-Valley Directorate.

Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Abdel-Razak Yakubu, said the vehicles would support the education directorates in carrying out activities including supervision, monitoring, teacher and learner engagements, coordination of educational programmes and examinations.

He said the directorates also support programmes such as the Vacation Initiative for Basic Education (VIBE) and Ada Lovelace Day, while effective coordination and movement of personnel and materials are required for examinations including the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Foundation is also providing nine motorcycles, comprising seven Yamaha YBR 125 and two Apsonic 200G4 models, with helmets, to strengthen agricultural extension and community health outreach.

Three motorcycles have been allocated to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Prestea Huni-Valley, while two will go to the Ministry in Tarkwa Nsuaem.

Two motorcycles have been allocated to the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) of the Ghana Cocoa Board in Tarkwa Nsuaem, while one motorcycle each will go to the Environmental Health Departments of Prestea Huni-Valley and Tarkwa Nsuaem.

The motorcycles are valued at GH¢293,600.

According to Mr Yakubu, the motorcycles will enable agriculture officers to undertake more farm visits, including closer attention to oil palm production, while supporting CHED’s outreach to cocoa-growing communities.

He said the motorcycles allocated to the Environmental Health Departments were intended to support faster responses to health concerns, challenges and emergencies.

The Executive Secretary said the Foundation’s support for education, health and agriculture forms part of its broader investment in its host communities.

He said the Foundation had invested more than US$113 million in education, health, agriculture, water and sanitation, infrastructure and enterprise development, with more than US$16.18 million of the investment going into educational programmes and initiatives.
