Zambia targets mining investments and joint ventures at Africa Down Under

The Zambian Government is using the Africa Down Under Conference 2026 in Perth, Western Australia, to attract mining investment, establish joint ventures and secure modern mining and mineral-processing technologies.

Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Dr Hapenga Kabeta said Zambia’s delegation was holding one-on-one meetings with major mining and investment companies, including BHP and Peerless.

He said the government’s focus was not only to promote Zambia as a mining investment destination but also to convert engagements into concrete investment agreements.

“We must also be able to close deals and ensure that we are able to sign agreements that will lead to tangible investments going forward,” Dr Kabeta said.

Zambia’s Chargé d’Affaires, Anna Lupenga Barrow, said the country was positioning itself as an important player in the emerging global critical minerals economy, citing its reserves of copper, cobalt and other strategic minerals.

ZCCM Investments Holdings Vice Board Chairperson Mubita Akapelwa said the company was focused on developing new mines and expanding greenfield mineral exploration to strengthen Zambia’s long-term mineral resource base.

Zambia is promoting itself as a preferred mining investment destination as the government pursues a target of increasing annual copper production to three million metric tonnes.

The Africa Down Under Conference brings together governments, mining companies, investors, financial institutions and industry experts to explore investment opportunities and developments in Africa’s mining sector.
