The Chair of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Mr. Richard Ellimah, has engaged the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on funding challenges facing the Committee and the need for sustainable financial support to enable it effectively carry out its mandate.
The meeting, held on Monday, January 26, 2026, focused on constraints arising from delays and inadequacies in budgetary allocations, which PIAC says have affected its ability to adequately monitor and evaluate the management and use of Ghana’s petroleum revenues.
Mr. Ellimah highlighted PIAC’s statutory responsibilities under the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA), stressing that timely and adequate funding is essential for the Committee to promote transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the administration of petroleum revenues.
He noted that without predictable and sufficient funding, PIAC’s oversight activities, including monitoring, public education, and reporting, risk being undermined.
In response, the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, acknowledged PIAC’s critical role as a key accountability institution in Ghana’s petroleum governance framework. He assured the Committee of Government’s commitment to addressing the funding challenges in order to strengthen PIAC’s capacity to deliver effective oversight.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance accountability and transparency in the management of Ghana’s petroleum resources.
