Ghana: Minerals Commission leads RDF delegation on working visit to Zijin Akyem Mine

The Minerals Commission facilitated a working visit for the Revenue Development Foundation (RDF) and its partner-country delegates to the Zijin Akyem Mine in the Eastern Region on Friday, February 27, 2026.
The visit formed part of activities marking the conclusion of the 2026 RDF Governance Systems Workshop, which was held in Accra and brought together participants to discuss improvements in mineral revenue governance and sector regulation.
According to the Commission, the field trip was designed to provide the RDF team and delegates with a firsthand view of a large-scale mining operation in Ghana.

The engagement allowed participants to observe operational processes within the industry while linking theoretical discussions from the workshop to real-world mining practices.
Throughout the visit, participants were introduced to various operational aspects of the Zijin Akyem Mine, gaining practical insights into the technologies, systems, and governance structures that support modern mining operations.

The visit also highlighted the role of technological innovation and strong governance frameworks in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource management in the extractive sector.

The 2026 RDF Governance Systems Workshop focused on enhancing collaboration among participating countries, strengthening mineral revenue systems, and promoting best practices in the management of extractive resources.
