Five police officers have been interdicted after viral videos allegedly showed them demanding money from illegal miners instead of enforcing the law.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement issued on Monday, (May 4), said the officers’ conduct has brought the Service into disrepute and they have been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau for investigation.
The interdicted officers are Chief Inspector Matthew Blay, Chief Inspector Francis Arthur, Inspector Eric Osei of the Osu Police Station, Sergeant Amos Dery of the National Protection Unit, and Inspector Joseph Okyere Asabre of the Obuasi Police District.
The Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and accountability, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken after investigations are concluded.
