President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held the talks on Wednesday on the sidelines of the “Make it in the Emirates 2026” summit at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

As part of efforts to deepen bilateral energy ties, the two leaders explored potential UAE investment in oil and gas storage facilities in Ghana to support the country’s energy security and downstream petroleum sector.

The discussions also focused on diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on crude oil through greater investment in LNG and solar power. Both leaders highlighted the importance of building resilient and sustainable energy systems capable of supporting long-term economic growth.

In addition to conventional energy cooperation, the meeting examined opportunities in renewable energy, technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence as part of a broader strategy to modernise both economies.

The leaders also touched on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution to current hostilities to enable renewed global focus on sustainable development and energy transition initiatives.

Reaffirming the long-standing relationship between the two countries, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan described Ghana as a stable and peaceful partner with strong investment potential.

Both leaders expressed confidence that the renewed partnership would drive increased trade, investment, and sustainable energy collaboration between Ghana and the UAE.
