NewsWire Africa has opened applications for the second cohort of the Africa Extractives Media Fellowship, Ghana’s only structured, multi-month journalism training programme dedicated exclusively to the extractives sector.

The Fellowship, which trains journalists to report on oil, gas, mining, critical minerals, environmental governance, and the economic and policy frameworks that shape how Ghana’s natural resources are managed, is now accepting applications from Ghanaian journalists across all media platforms and career stages.

Applications opened on Monday, 25 May 2026, and will close at 11:59 PM GMT on Sunday, 7 June 2026.

The second cohort will train 50 journalists over six months through full-day sessions held twice a month, combining structured training, field exposure, expert facilitation, mentorship, and hands-on story production.

Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah, Project Lead for the Africa Extractives Media Fellowship, said the opening of applications marks a significant moment for journalism in Ghana.

“The extractives sector shapes the economic future of this country and this continent, yet it remains one of the most technically demanding and underserved beats in African journalism. The AEMF exists to change that. We are looking for journalists who are curious, committed, and ready to go deeper on the stories that matter. If that is you, we want to hear from you.”

Women journalists are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications are open exclusively to Ghanaian journalists and must be submitted through the official fellowship portal at https://aemf.newswireafrica.org.

The application process includes a multi-step submission covering professional background, published work, a project proposal, and a cognitive assessment on Ghana’s extractive industries.

Application deadline: Sunday, 7 June 2026 | 11:59 PM GMT
