A high-level delegation from the Republic of Burundi has visited the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) in Accra as part of a study and capacity-building mission focused on Ghana’s extractive sector governance and mineral revenue management.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, forms part of a week-long mission examining Ghana’s legislative, institutional, and governance frameworks within the extractive industry.

The four-member delegation was led by Mr. Igiraneza Aristide, Director General in Charge of the Hydrocarbons, Mines and Quarries Programme at Burundi’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Energy, Industry, Trade and Tourism.

The delegation was accompanied by officials from Ghana’s Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

Welcoming the team, the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, expressed Ghana’s readiness to share its experiences and institutional approaches aimed at ensuring mineral revenues contribute to local development.

She highlighted Ghana’s efforts in building structures and policies to optimise mineral revenue for the socio-economic transformation of mining host communities.

During the engagement, the Director of Operations at the MDF, Mr. Frank Hayford, delivered a technical presentation on the statutory mandate and operations of the Fund.

The presentation provided insights into Ghana’s systems for mineral revenue mobilisation and the use of mining proceeds to support sustainable development in mining communities.

The discussions also focused on Ghana’s broader governance framework for the extractive sector and how institutional mechanisms can support accountability and community development.

The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Ghana and Burundi in the area of extractive sector governance and capacity development.
