UMaT to launch IMRIG on 8 July to promote evidence-based mineral governance

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, is set to officially launch the Institute of Mineral Resource Investment and Governance (IMRIG), a new research and policy institute established to strengthen mineral resource governance, investment frameworks and regulatory reforms in Ghana and across Africa.
The Institute has been created under the auspices of UMaT to undertake rigorous, evidence-based research aimed at informing public policy and promoting sustainable management of mineral resources.
IMRIG will serve as a platform for collaboration and dialogue among government institutions, the mining industry, academia, civil society organisations and international development partners on issues affecting the extractive sector.
The Institute’s work will focus on generating research to support sound decision-making, improving investment frameworks, and contributing to policy and regulatory reforms that enhance transparency, accountability and sustainable development in the minerals sector.
The inaugural launch will formally establish IMRIG as a national institution and provide an opportunity to present its mandate, research agenda and strategic priorities to key stakeholders.
The launch, themed “Bridging Investment and Governance for Sustainable Mineral Wealth,” will also feature a high-level dialogue on emerging challenges and opportunities in Ghana’s extractive industry, bringing together government officials, industry leaders, development partners, academics, civil society organisations, members of the media, and the general public.
UMaT said the establishment of IMRIG reflects its commitment to supporting the development of Ghana’s mining industry through research, policy analysis and stakeholder engagement.
The University expects the Institute to play a significant role in shaping discussions on mineral resource governance and investment while contributing to the development of evidence-based policies that strengthen Ghana’s extractive sector and support broader economic development.
